Booking software for handymen, where half the work is answering the phone

Most handyman work is small, and the admin costs more than the job: a call, a text, a drive-by to look, an invoice, a reminder. Bookka lets the straightforward work book itself by the hour, takes the rest as a quote with photos, and gets you paid before you leave the driveway.

What handymen put up with

If none of these are your week, you probably do not need us.

  • Six calls a day you cannot answer because both hands are holding something.
  • Driving across town to look at a job worth ninety dollars.
  • Half-hour jobs booked as half-hour jobs, with no allowance for the hardware run.
  • Materials bought out of your own pocket and remembered onto the invoice later, or not.
  • Invoices emailed after the work and paid whenever the customer gets round to it.
  • A diary that only exists on the seat of the ute.

What changes

Each one is a thing the product does today, not a thing on a roadmap.

Small jobs book by the hour

Put an hourly or half-day call-out on your page with the time as an option, and the routine work — a door that sticks, a shelf, a tap washer — is booked and paid for without the phone ever ringing.

The rest is quoted from photos

Anything you would otherwise drive out to look at comes in as a quote request with pictures and detail. You price it from the ute and only commit the time once the number is agreed.

Materials go on the bill

Added as a line when you take payment, so what you bought at the hardware shop is charged at the door rather than remembered onto an invoice three days later.

Paid before you drive off

Card or cash from your phone when the job is done, with no Bookka fee at all. The invoice chase stops being a weekly task.

Site notes stay with the customer

Where to park, which unit, the key safe, the dog, the thing they mentioned last time that still needs doing. On the record and in front of you before you arrive.

The diary is somewhere other than the ute

Your week on a phone, with confirmations and reminders going out on their own so customers are expecting you.

What you get

Everything a handyman business runs on, in one place

Instead of a missed-call list, a quote scribbled on the back of a receipt, an invoicing app and a diary on the passenger seat.

Fill the book

Jobs get booked while you are up a ladder, and at eleven at night.

Online booking, on your page and in the marketplace. Your own booking link plus a profile customers can find by service and suburb. You choose whether bookings confirm instantly or wait for your approval.

A calendar per person. Every team member has their own services, hours and schedule, with roles deciding who sees what. Chair renters and multi-location shops are handled as first-class cases, not workarounds.

Services with options, add-ons and quotes. Length variants that change the price, add-ons that extend the appointment, and a quote request for the jobs that have to be seen before they can be priced.

Get paid

Paid at the door, with the materials on the same bill.

Deposits and cancellation policies. Take a per-service deposit at the time of booking, with the balance due on the day. The customer sees the amount and the cancellation window before they pay, and a cancellation inside the window refunds itself.

A point of sale for walk-ins. Ring up services and retail at the counter, take cash or card, or use a WisePOS E terminal. Bookka charges no fee on an in-person payment — only Stripe’s own terminal rate applies, and cash costs nothing.

Gift cards and an online shop. Sell gift cards and products from your booking page, with pickup or post, and refunds and fulfilment tracked in the same place as your appointments.

Bring people back

The customer with a list is worth ten who had one job.

Reminders by SMS and email. A confirmation immediately and a reminder before the day, sent automatically. No-shows are mostly a memory problem, and this is the fix for it.

Bookka Rewards. Points for what people spend or stamps for turning up, redeemed against a catalogue you set. Rewards come off the bill at the till and in the shop.

Campaigns, social and ads. Email and SMS campaigns with single-use promo codes, a scheduler that publishes to Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, and a manager for Google and Meta ads.

Run the place

The admin that happens whether or not you have software for it.

Numbers you can act on. Revenue, bookings, your best services and the regulars who have quietly stopped coming — with exports and custom reports when you need to look properly.

An assistant that does the admin. Ask it about your own figures in plain English. Turn on changes and it will complete bookings, record cash, adjust stock and draft campaigns — confirming before each one and logging every change. It cannot cancel bookings, refund anyone or touch billing.

Xero, and the rest of your stack. Native accounting sync with accounts provisioned on connect, calendar sync so your own diary stays right, and Stripe underneath all of it.

Everything handymen need, in one tool

All of it on every paid plan unless the card says otherwise. Where something is limited by plan, the pricing below says so rather than this list hedging each line.

  • Hourly and half-day call-outs

Booked directly from your page with the duration as an option, so routine work needs no phone call at all.

  • Quote requests with photos

The job described and pictured before you commit a drive to it, answered with a price from wherever you are.

  • Materials added at payment

Charged as a line on the sale when you take the money, rather than reconstructed from receipts later in the week.

  • Travel and call-out as their own line

Priced into the job up front — you set the figure, there is no distance calculator — so it is agreed rather than swallowed.

  • Customer and property notes

Parking, unit numbers, key safes, pets and the jobs they have mentioned but not booked, kept private to the business.

  • Automatic confirmations and reminders

By SMS and email, so somebody is home and the morning does not start at a locked door.

  • Deposits on the longer jobs

Set per service, so a full day is held and an hourly call-out is not, with the cancellation terms shown before payment.

  • Paid on site, 0% from Bookka

Card or cash on the doorstep, or a WisePOS E terminal in the van — Bookka takes no cut of any of it, and cash costs nothing at all.

  • Works from a phone, outdoors

The schedule, the notes, the quote and the payment all available on site rather than back at a desk.

  • A second pair of hands

Add a team member with their own hours and jobs when the work needs two, without changing how anything else runs.

  • Repeat customers, named

Reporting that shows who you have worked for and who has gone quiet, with campaigns to fill a slow week.

  • No commission on any job

Your own booking page plus a marketplace profile found by service and suburb, with no percentage taken.

Booking software for handymen, answered

Still curious? Get in touch — we reply fast.

Yes, by splitting the two kinds of work. Publish an hourly or half-day call-out that customers book directly — that covers the small jobs where the uncertainty is small and the admin is the real cost. Everything bigger comes in as a quote request with photos, which you price without driving out to look. Most handymen find the first group is more of their week than they expected.

Yes, as a line added to the sale when you take payment at the door, so what you spent at the hardware shop is on the same bill as the labour. What Bookka does not have is stock or materials inventory with cost prices and margins — it is a line on the sale, not a purchasing system.

Yes, as part of the service price or as an add-on the customer sees when booking. There is no automatic distance-based fee, so you set the number — the gain is that it is visible and agreed before you drive, rather than a conversation at the door.

No, and it is worth being blunt. There is no dispatch, no route optimisation, no field app with timers, no purchase orders, no compliance certificates and no recurring service agreements. If you are running a crew of technicians between unplanned jobs, you want a job management platform. Bookka suits a handyman working to a booked diary who wants the phone to stop being the booking system.

Not automatically. Bookka has no recurring bookings, so a standing monthly maintenance visit is booked each time. A regular customer can rebook from your page quickly, and you can book several dates ahead, but nothing repeats on its own.

Take the quote as a request with photos. The customer describes it and sends pictures through your page, and you answer with a price from the ute between jobs. For a trade where an unpaid inspection can cost more than the job earns, that one change is usually the whole argument.

Yes, and that is the common case. The free plan covers five bookings a month and Business is $39, everything runs from a phone, and there is nothing that assumes an office or an admin person. Add a second set of hands later and the rest stays as it was.

No commission on bookings, on any plan, including customers who find you through the marketplace. Free for five bookings a month, then $39 a month for up to five people and $69 for up to twenty. Online card payments cost 2.2% + 30c, all in and GST inclusive on Australian cards. In person Bookka takes nothing at all — you pay only Stripe’s own rate — and cash, your own EFTPOS machine and a gift card being redeemed cost nothing. Everything settles into your own Stripe account rather than ours.
